Estimated monthly payment
How the mortgage repayment calculator works
A repayment mortgage payment covers both interest and part of the amount borrowed. If the rate and payment remain unchanged and you make all payments, the balance should reduce over the term. By contrast, an interest-only estimate shows monthly interest; you must still repay the original capital separately at the end of the term.
What can change the monthly payment?
The loan amount, interest rate, mortgage term and repayment type all affect the illustration. A longer term can reduce the monthly payment but may increase the total interest paid. Actual lender calculations can also differ because of product fees, rate changes, payment timing and individual product terms.
For further background, read MoneyHelper’s mortgages and homebuying guidance.
For a £200,000 capital-and-interest mortgage over 25 years at an illustrative 5% rate, the estimated payment is about £1,169 per month. This is an illustration, not a mortgage offer.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a mortgage quote?
No. It is a general mathematical illustration and does not assess eligibility, affordability or the mortgage products available to you.
Does a lower monthly payment always cost less?
No. Extending the term can lower monthly payments while increasing the total interest paid over time.
Can S&S Home Journey help with mortgage advice?
Where appropriate, S&S Home Journey can introduce you to an appropriately authorised mortgage adviser. That independent adviser provides any regulated mortgage advice and recommendations, not S&S Home Journey. You remain free to choose your own mortgage adviser.
This calculator provides an estimate for general guidance only. It is not a mortgage offer or financial advice. It does not include fees, insurance, taxes or changes in interest rates. Mortgage availability, payments and lending decisions depend on individual circumstances, lender criteria and the chosen product. Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
